After 3.5 months in Belgium, we can say each Sunday we attend "Our" little protestant church here in Bruxelles has been an encouragement to us. In the beginning it was mostly an encouragement to work harder, so we could all five understand more than just a few of the words we were hearing each week. After awhile, we began to receive a kiss on the cheek from fellow attendies we were beginning to know. It was wonderful. We felt/feel so loved and accepted. It's great to have somewhere to go in Belgium (where less than 2% of the population are Christians) and to be able to share a common bond of a deep love for Christ.
We didn't know before we arrived that in Belgian culture a single kiss on the check is only given to people you know well and/or love. We thought even strangers shared kisses. This is not the case. So to begin to receive kisses was such a BIG deal for us.
A young family from church is coming over this Sunday for lunch. They are Belgian, but speak pretty good English also. They are willing to allow us to butcher French, and not resort back to English when we speak with them (unless absolutely necessary). Which in such a well educated area is a BIG deal. They are a sweet couple, and we look forward to fellowshiping over a meal with them. Keep the preparations for this in your prayers, as well as our time together. May we be an encouragement to them spiritually, as well as, any other ways.
