Our BIG night on the town! We found a beautifully lit area, and it was really gorgeous. We also saw an outdoor ice skating rink. It was such a romantic setting, but alas with 3 little ones with us, there was no ice skating for us this time.
The Dutch really go all out with Christmas. The timing of our trip coincided with the arrival of Sinter Claus in Amsterdam. He arrives on a boat and rides the boat throughout town and declares all the children "Good!" So they can all receive his presents on December 6th. The 25th is much more a day spent with family, and even in Belgium this is true. The 6th is a BIG day for the children's presents. Unfortunately Aubriana's birthday is the 7th, so we'll only do one present per child on the 6th and then a normal Christmas when all the gifts from family in the states arrive! YEAH!!!
These pictures are from outside The HardRock Cafe Amsterdam. We aren't sure if this is the first Hardrock cafe or not, we were told it was somewhere over here. It was really fun to order in English and just to be waited on!! Shockingly the prices weren't bad! Heather got a big salad with chicken strips, and RANCH dressing, and a BIG glass of ICED tea - non existent in Belgium- soooo goood and it was REFILLABLE- NO way!!! YUMMM!! The kids got chicken tenders and fries with barbaque sauce!! Brian had a BBQ brisket sandwich, which he loved! It was just a fun night!
Then there's the picture with Aubriana in front of all the wooden shoes of Holland! She loved them. We didn't buy any. They are just soooo stinking HEAVY- Too heavy to mail- that's for sure, but we did pick up a few of the miniture kind- which are FUN!!
